burning man entry two: the burn

It has been 3 weeks since the burn and I am still thinking about how powerful the whole event was. I cannot wait to get back on the playa

One of the things I keep coming back to is something I saw when I was as close to The Man burn as possible. It was extremely hot, the largest fire I had seen and a beautiful young man was bowing and praying to the fire. He was standing much closer than I could bear. Even nude he was able to withstand the extreme heat. There was some unknown beauty about that moment.. The urge to go to the flame no matter how hot.

Even after one full week in the desert everyone still flocks to the “flame”.

It really is an awe inspiring moment. Out in the desert, middle of nowhere, this group of people come to gather around this large fire. The Man burn is the only event of the week which nearly everyone in the city attends, the only event which every person has their energy focused on.

While slightly anti-climactic the burn of the man seemed very important to me. After The Man burns Black Rock City is not the same. It feels like after the city heads to the playa for The Man burn they never come back to camp. The fact that the city is emptying out really make for an interesting and thought provoking sunday. Sunday is very quiet, the temple burns and everyone (but DPW) is thinking about leaving. It is the end of the event and it surely feels like the part is over..
